Sponsored Post: As a Mumsnet Local editor, I was invited to review Shepreth Wildlife Park.
Easy to find by road Shepreth has an impressive range of animals with Bunny’s, Horses, Sheep, Monkeys, Otters, Mara, Lemurs, Ibis and the beautiful Tigers to name a few.
The park is in a lovely setting and you get very close to the animals. The enclosures looked to be a good size with lots of glass viewing areas at different heights to help the little people get really good views. The staff were friendly and helpful offering tips on the best times of day to visit certain animals.
A lot of the park has a path which makes it easy to wander around with a buggy, there a few parts where there is gravel but alternative routes are signposted. There are plenty of clean toilets & baby changing.
Throughout the day there are times where the keepers give talks about some of the animals; did you know tigers are attracted to Calvin Klein’s Obsession? We managed to catch the tiger talk on feeding day, food & scents were hidden around the enclosure & the two tigers obligingly hunted. The 6 yr. old was really pleased to see an extreme close up of a tiger scattering logs & ripping open a paper sack to find lunch.
The café had a good selection of sandwiches, sausage rolls, ice cream and light lunch options not forgetting the essential coffee & cakes. I managed to get a glimpse of the party food which was freshly made & plentiful. There are plenty of picnic areas, some undercover which on a hot or rainy day would be welcome.
Children can visit the discovery centre where they can meet some of the animals.
When the kids have had enough of looking at no extra charge they either can run around in the indoor soft play area (close to the cake & coffee) or they can exhaust themselves on the outdoor play equipment (the zip wire being a firm favourite)
We all had a great day with lots to keep the kids & adults amused, the best bit for the 6yr. old was ‘Bunny land’ (even after seen the huge glossy tigers – there’s no accounting for some) & the animal that got the most reaction from a 11 moth old was the Meerkats.
Dotted around the site there are posters advertising birthday party options and Animal experiences, I think the 11 month is perhaps a little young for a ‘Meet the Meerkats’ but perhaps it’s worth remembering for the future.
